Lifts are more advanced than they have ever been, with more safety features than ever before and less lift repair needed. Lifts are more efficient than ever, with better interiors and comfort features, making lifts more safe and less scary for those who are cautious. Despite lifts being so advanced, there is always the chance for the lift to break down. A lift breaking down is rarely like the movies where it plummets to the ground as brakes and other safety features stop this from happening, but a lift breakdown is still something you need to be prepared for.

A lift breakdown is a major problem as it can disrupt businesses, interrupt daily routines and cause other hosts of problems, especially in industries and buildings where a working lift is paramount, like care homes or hospitals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Regular lift maintenance can help to prevent lift breakdowns, as the lift is being checked regularly, this results in anything that could cause the lift breakdown being fixed.

We recommend cleaning the lift doors (lift doors are the leading cause of lift breakdowns) leaves, rubbish or dirt often get stuck in-between the lift doors. We also recommend not overloading the lift as exceeding the weight limit can cause a lift breakdown, you should display the weight limit on the lift and if its a passenger lift display a person limit. As well as lift maintenance you should check lift doors on a regular basis.

If you, or someone else is trapped in a lift, you need to call the emergency services and press the autodialler (the red emergency button on the lift) the autodialler will call the lift company and they will send an engineer out to free the trapped people.

If the above doesn’t work and the business is still open, make as much noise as you can but stay calm, this may get someones attention and if you are calm then you will be able to communicate with emergency services better.

We have a first time fix policy on any lift repair, we will try to get the lift up and running again in one site visit instead of repeat visits.
