Lift Work Experience in Stoke

Michael Robinson has just done some lift work experience at our offices in Stoke. Unfortunately Michael missed out on work experience via college due to COVID 19, just like many other children did. Our MD Paul Robinson thought it was a good idea for Michael to meet the team and learn a bit about lifts and what we do.

In most cases, lifting equipment is also work equipment so the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) will also apply (including inspection and maintenance). All lifting operations involving lifting equipment must be properly planned by a competent person, appropriately supervised and carried out in a safe manner.

LOLER also requires that all equipment used for lifting is fit for purpose, appropriate for the task, suitably marked and, in many cases, subject to statutory periodic ‘thorough examination‘. Records must be kept of all thorough examinations and any defects found must be reported to both the person responsible for the equipment and the relevant enforcing authority.

Hi-Tec Lifts are keen on investing in young people. We believe that if you find people with a good attitude and good work ethic, then they will learn and progress. I think we are lucky to have found Andy Followes and Elliot Lake. I also think they are lucky to work alongside Steve and Neil who have over 40 years of lift installation experience between them.

In the photo you can see Steve Bowditch, Neil Duncan, Andy Followes and Elliot Lake – good looking bunch. Steve has been with the company for 15 years and Neil 20 years. They have installed hundreds of lifts in their time at Hi-Tec. Even though we are a small business we are still investing in young people. We currently have two apprentice installers Elliot and Andy who are keen to learn and progress in our business. To have the option to learn from someone like Steve or Neil is great for the young guys.

As a company we think keeping installation in house works better. Our teams can become expert installers on certain products, making install faster but more importantly better quality. We will always outsource our testing as we feel as though this makes sure our teams are doing a good and safe job for our customers.

We are pleased to welcome to the team, two new starters this week at Hi-Tec Lifts. Due to a busy 2020 and growth within our business we have needed to recruit for a new CSM and accountants assistant.

We are pleased to welcome to the team both Lisa Collings and Nicola Shelley, who will both be based at our offices in Newcastle under Lyme.

Lisa Collings joins us as our customer service manager and will be looking after our lift maintenance and lift repair customers on a daily basis. She has many years experience within the engineering sector and has moved back to the UK recently from America.

Passenger Lift in Birmingham

We have recently handed over a passenger lift in Birmingham for a care home. The main contractor asked us to get involved in this project after the site unfortunately flooded and the existing lift was badly damaged. We removed the lift that was on site and have replaced it with a MRL traction passenger lift – all within 10 weeks. We managed to match in a passenger lift to the existing shaft, pit and available headroom on site.

The client wanted special colours for their passenger liftto match their colour scheme. We supplied the lift with white vinyl patterned walls, grey granite flooring and stainless steel ceiling with spotlights. The doors are finished in stainless steel to match in with the hallway.

The lift shaft was existing but our passenger lift is bespoke but without a big price tag. We managed to fit in a 10 person passenger lift into the existing structure and offered special EN81 compliance. The passenger lift in Birmingham was installed within 3 weeks.

Our installation team had high praise from the tester who said it was “one of the best installations he had ever seen”. Also the main contractor was pleased with our performance saying “your company have helped us from day one and your lads were spot on”. It is always great to get true honest feedback on our company and staff. We must say that the contractor and client have also been great and supportive.

The role will be based from our offices near Stoke and will be ideal for someone who wants a career in the lift industry with a growing business. Ideally the candidate would have experience in lifts or has an engineering background.

The lift repair sales manager will run all aspects of the repairs and modernisation department at our company. This is a busy department but this role would be ideal for someone who wants to make it their own. You will need to have good IT skills, be good with customers and have an engineering background.

We have recently secured a lift replacement project to replace a passenger lift in London. The existing site is a 3 floor office that is to be converted and upgraded to a 4 floor apartment building. The lift replacement was essential as the current lift could not be altered to suit.

We managed to match in a passenger lift to the existing shaft, pit and available headroom on site. Our lifts are fully bespoke, so we can amend car sizes, door sizes and loads to suit site constrains. Our bespoke range of passenger lifts is ideal for existing sites where a standard sized lift is not suitable.

We have recently secured an order for some passenger lifts in London. The exciting office refurbishment project is for an existing contractor of Hi-Tec Lifts. The existing lifts on site need replacing due to age and unreliability. We have offered a full turn key package for the client including the lift removal and building work.

The two new MRL traction lifts will offer the office staff a high speed and smooth ride for their new office refurbishment. Care Home Lift

We was recently approached by a main contractor regarding a care home lift, who had issues on site with flooding. They had recently built a care home for the end client but the site flooded, meaning that the lift pit had been covered in water and damaged parts. The previous lift company had supplied a hydraulic lift meaning many parts were damaged in the floods.

Hi-Tec Lifts suggested an MRL traction passenger lift for the care home with a reduced headroom. This way if flooding ever occurred again, then the lift components would be above the water level, meaning no damage. We also assisted with sealing the lift pit and using a sump pump as a back up.

This care home lift needed a one stop shop from Hi-Tec Lifts as it is now an operational care home. The passenger lift was removed by us within a week, whilst leaving the site safe and looking the same to the end client.

Hotel Lift @ Seaside Resort

Hi-Tec Lifts have supplied and installed a Hotel Lift for a client of ours on the South Coast. Having worked with the client on many projects previously, we was asked to be involved early.

We offered a free site survey to determine the right passenger lift for this project. The hotel is a fantastic old building on the sea front and offers clients the perfect stay on the south coast. A reliable hotel lift was required but the works undertaken to replace the lift were quite extensive.

Luckily at Hi-Tec Lifts we offer the full turn key solution for our clients. We removed the existing passenger lift and then adapted the top of the shaft to give us the increased headroom.
